A common set of questions asked of me is How do I reset my Hotmail.com Password? or Someone stole my Hotmail.com account, how do I get it back?
There could be one of many reasons the Hotmail.com account was locked out or the password no longer works. Maybe someone brute forced Hotmail.com and got your password that way. Maybe your computer contracted spyware and your login credentials were stolen and used to get into your account. Maybe a family member or ex-boy/girlfriend wanted to play an unfriendly joke. Or maybe, just maybe the password was simply forgotten. Neverminding the reason behind the loss of access to the Hotmail.com account, this article will walk you through how to regain access to it as quickly as possible.
The how in this situation is pretty simple and straight forward. You need to contact Hotmail.com’s support team and explain the problem.
You can contact Hotmail.com at 866-672-4551. They are reachable Monday-Friday from 8am until 1am and on the weekends between 8am and 8pm.
Once this information is passed onto the asker the steps get much more difficult and time consuming. Hotmail.com does not have the greatest support team and it is very possible you’ll wait on the phone for extended periods of time before ever getting through to a real person. There are numerous reports of phone “disconnects” while trying to get a solution from one of their phone representatives to make matters more frustrating. And to top it off, they may ask you to make a new Hotmail.com email account so you can email the technical support team your problem instead of assisting you with it over the phone.
However, follow this advice and you’ll have a much higher success rate of getting your e-mail account back or getting the password reset.
Step 1: Jot down all the information you remember about the account. Pay special interest to recent emails sent and received from the account as well as personal folders or contact names that were attached to the account. Don’t waste Hotmail.com’s phone support line’s time by trying to wing it. You need to have a plan and you need all the information you can remember.
Step 2: Call up Hotmail.com’s technical support number as listed above and cross both your fingers and toes (perhaps do a little lucky dance or pet the head of one of those keychain trolls that are meant to give you luck) that you get through to someone.
Step 3: If you get through to someone, be polite. You need their support to get your e-mail account back, remember? Briefly explain your problem and let them know you are the true owner of the account and you can verify your credentials by what you know of the account. Tell the phone representative everything you know. You need to convince them the account was yours in the first place. Don’t act suspicious or disorganized on the phone. It is far easier for them to not help you in this situation than it is for them to reset the password and regrant you access to the account.
Hopefully, by following the detailed steps above, you are able to retrieve your lost or stolen Hotmail.com e-mail account. As always, choose a hard password to guess but one that is easy for you to remember. And always scan for spyware!
